Wii browser free until July 2007

Opera Software has confirmed that its internet browser will be free for users of Nintendo's Wii console until June 2007.

Opera Software has confirmed that its internet browser will be free for users of Nintendo's Wii console until the end of June 2007.

The browser will be available to download for free from the Wii Shop Channel as a temporary promotion.

From July, users will be required to purchase Opera using Wii points - Nintendo's credit system for the new home console - although a price has not yet been set.

As well as including functions of the Opera 9 Desktop browser such as bookmarks and zoom, it will support Flash and AJAX-based content, and be customised to the Wii and its remote controller.

Opera already works closely with Nintendo, supplying the browser for the DS, which is due to launch in Europe on October 6th.
