WCG Announces Series of “Last Chance” Local Preliminary Qualifiers

For gamers with dreams of turning their hobby into a career as a pro gamer, the final chance to qualify for the 2005 WCG has arrived.

As the US regional rounds are poised to begin, the WCG organizers have announced several "last chance" preliminary qualifiers for Counter-Strike, Halo 2, Starcraft: Brood War, Warcraft III: Frozen Throne, and Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War.

Winners of the local preliminaries qualify for the regional playoffs which then lead to the US Final. The 2005 WCG US Final will be held at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom from September 8-10th. Top finishers at the US Final will comprise Team USA that will then head to play the best of the best in the world at the 2005 World Cyber Games Grand Final in Singapore this November. More than 70 countries are expected to send teams to the Grand Final.

In addition, the World Cyber Games has expanded the prize pool for its Battlefield 2 Demo competition to include 200 Battlefield Zboard gaming keyboards. This side competition kicks off today July 18 at iGames affiliated gaming centers nationwide. As the official WCG demo game in US, the Battlefield 2 ladder provides an opportunity for friendly competition with a total prize pool estimated at more than $20,000.

Widely considered to be the biggest video and computer game festival in the world, and the most important, over 1 million gamers worldwide competed for a chance to reach the 2004 World Cyber Games Grand Final. The World Cyber Games has launched the careers of such pro-gamers as Guilliam Patry, Matt "Zyos" Leto and Team3D.
