Walkden steps down as CEO of Game Domain International

Digital downloads service AWOMO still in beta and raising funds

Roger Walkden, CEO of Game Domain International, has stepped down from the position and joined publisher Electronic Arts.

GDI's ambitious project A World of My Own was originally announced as a virtual world where user avatars could socialise and play videogames, but has since been scaled back to concentrate on super-fast digital game downloads.

"I can confirm that Roger Walkden has moved from the role of CEO to that of non-executive director of GDI," said communications director Tim Ponting.

"Roger successfully drove GDI’s partnership program within the videogames industry and has overseen the initial design and public testing of the service. As a board member, he will continue to assist, support and guide the company's strategy, but not in a full-time operational capacity."

Walkden was previously senior VP of marketing for Activision Europe, and GamesIndustry.biz understands he has now taken a business development position at EA.

The AWOMO service launched its public beta in late 2008, and currently offers a handful of games including Painkiller, Rome: Total War, Warhammer: Mark of Chaos and Flatout 2 for download.

"I can also confirm that the search for a permanent new CEO is under way, with the existing management team taking operational responsibility on a day-to-day basis. It's business as usual as we continue our fund-raising activity," added Ponting.
