Vivendi revenues jump 6%

Strong performance from Activision Blizzard helps parent company to solid first quarter

Vivendi has released financial results for the first quarter of its fiscal 2010, headlining with a revenue increase of 6 per cent over the same period last year.

In total the media giant's income hit €6.9 billion, with one of the key contributors to that being a strong performance from its subsidiary, Activision Blizzard - the publisher recently posted revenues of almost €1 billion alone.

Other companies adding to the group's total included French mobile phone company SFR, which saw revenues up 1.9 per cent to €3.1 billion, while Maroc Telecom Group added €660 million, Universal Music Group contributed €889 million and TV network Canal+ brought in €1.1 billion.

Net income stood at €736 million, up 13.4 per cent from last year's €649 million, and equivalent to €0.60 per share.

The company's share price rose by over 3 per cent in early trading today following the release of the results, to stand at €18.50, giving the company a market capitalisation of €22.7 billion.
