NESTA's "Playing the Game" report gets thumbs-up from TIGA.

March 1st 2010

TIGA today endorsed a report by The National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA), Playing the Game, which provides insights into practical support, such as mentoring and advice, which can help early stage games businesses to grow and to compete with overseas rivals.

Richard Wilson, CEO of TIGA, said:

“NESTA has produced an excellent report. Playing the Game provides an analysis of NESTA’s year-long mentoring programme in the games industry. It provides a practical guide to creating and growing a games business, including how to work with publishers, raise finance, manage budgets and access markets. TIGA is particularly pleased to see the success of the mentoring scheme.

“A separate NESTA report, The Money Game, should also be read by game developers. Access to finance is an on-going problem in the games industry. This report indicates an approach that could ameliorate this problem.”

Gareth Edmondson, Managing Director of Ubisoft Reflections and Vice-Chairman of TIGA, said:

“TIGA’s vision is to make the UK the best place in the world to do games business. NESTA’s report, Playing the Game, demonstrates the value of mentoring in the games industry. A number of TIGA members were involved in NESTA’s mentoring programme. One of TIGA’s key roles is to disseminate best practice within the games industry. TIGA hopes to play a key role in perpetuating the mentoring project in the future.”
