UK Charts: Star Wars keeps its grip on the top two

LucasArts' Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith held on to the number one spot in the UK chart this week, while Giant Interactive's Lego Star Wars was at number two - with both titles recording increased sales.

LucasArts' Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith held on to the number one spot in the UK chart this week, while Giant Interactive's Lego Star Wars was at number two - with both titles recording increased sales.

The Eidos-distributed Lego Star Wars made the biggest gains, seeing a massive 68 per cent jump in sales thanks to heavy television advertising, while official movie tie-in Revenge of the Sith saw sales rise by just two per cent.

The alien capers continue at number three, with Midway's Area 51 climbing five places from last week's number eight, replacing THQ's WWE WrestleMania 21, which drops seven places to number ten.

The remainder of the top ten sees three football titles - Championship Manager 5 (No.4), FIFA Street (No.5) and Pro Evolution Soccer 4 (No.6) - taking the lead from two racing titles, namely Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition (No.7) and Forza Motorsport (No.8), while Sony's Gran Turismo 4 drops out of the top ten at long last, falling to this week's No.11.

The only new entry in the entire top 40, meanwhile, is UK developer Swordfish Studios' Cold Winter, published by Vivendi-Universal Games, which comes in at number 19.

On the rather short missing in action list for the week, then, are Namco's Ridge Racer DS and Nintendo's Donkey Konga 2 (Cube), both of which have received a rather muted critical response and neither of which dent the top 40.

This Friday, however, should see rather more action at UK retail, as the Xbox and PC versions of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas arrive at last, accompanied by THQ's MotoGP: Ultimate Racing Technology 3 on the same platforms. The GBA also has a good week, with Konami's light-sensitive Boktai 2: Solar Boy Django leading out a trio which also includes Nintendo's Mario Party Advance and Capcom's Megaman Battle Network 5.
