Ubisoft to publish Darkwatch in Europe

Publishing giant Ubisoft has signed an agreement to publish Darkwatch, High Moon Studios' first-person shooter for Xbox and PlayStation 2, in Europe and Australia this autumn.

Darkwatch puts players in the role of outlaw Jericho Cross, who unwittingly unleashes a vampire and must fight to end his reign of terror across the American West. Along with a single-player story mode the game features two-player split-screen versus and co-op modes, and Xbox Live support for up to 16 players.

"Together with High Moon Studios, we are introducing players to a title that can satisfy both Western fans as well as FPS aficionados ready to enjoy the fast-paced action the game has to offer," said Ubisoft's John Parkes.

Meelad Sadat, PR director for High Moon, added: "The excitement at High Moon is almost palpable as we near the premiere of our debut title.

"It is a thrill to know gamers across Europe and Australia will be introduced to Darkwatch by Ubisoft, a company known for some of today's best game properties."

SEGA was originally thought to be publishing Darkwatch, since was being developed by California-based Sammy Studios - a subsidiary of SEGA's Japanese business partner, Sammy Corporation.

However, a management buyout back in March saw Sammy Studios re-established as High Moon. The game will now be published by Capcom in the US, and in Europe by Ubisoft this autumn.

More information about the game is available from the official Darkwatch website.
