Ubisoft expands South American interests

Publisher acquires Southlogic Studios as it increases Ubisoft Sao Paulo headcount

Ubisoft has announced that it has completed the acquisition of independent Brazilian developer Southlogic Studios as it expands its South Amercian interests.

The company, established in 1996, had previously worked with Ubisoft on Imagine: Wedding Designer for the Nintendo DS, but also has experience with other publishers globally.

"As Brazil's most experienced and premier development studio, Southlogic has proven its agility in adapting to new technologies and genres on a variety of platforms," said Christine Burgess-Quémard, executive director of worldwide studios at Ubisoft. "This acquisition reinforces our commitment to attracting talent in South America, and Brazil in particular, further boosting the group's ambitious expansion plans."

The Southlogic team, numbering around 20 developers, will remain at its base in Porto Alegre, but answer to Ubisoft Sao Paulo. No specific project plans for the company were announced.
