Ubisoft acquires server company i3D.net

Publisher hopes to strengthen online and multiplayer experiences with help of Dutch provider

Ubisoft has announced today that it has acquired gaming server hosting provider i3D.net for an undisclosed amount, with the aim of improving its online and multiplayer experiences in its games.

i3D.net is a Dutch hosting provider and server company that specializes in gaming servers, and has hosted online servers for a number of major gaming companies including EA and (appropriately) Ubisoft. Currently, the company hosts tens of millions of players across PC, consoles, and mobile.

Through the acquisition, i3D.net hopes to increase its global reach while continuing to maintain its independent management and server hosting for a wide variety of companies in and outside gaming.

"We are continuing to build our online operations in order to deliver games and services that strongly enhance our players' experience," said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. "By adding i3D.net's expertise and technologies to ours, we are leaping years' ahead in our journey to deliver best in class service connectivity and performance to our players. i3D.net will continue to deliver state-of-the-art services to its clients and will benefit from our long-term support."

The acquisition is expected to close by the year's end.
