TwelveJ Acting Up for Developers

Ed Hooks to host workshop for game animators.

4th February 2008, London, UK. TwelveJ, the games industry leader in bespoke learning programmes for development studios today announces a workshop entitled 'Acting for Animators' hosted by world renowned expert Ed Hooks.

In 'Acting for Animators', Ed explains seven essential acting principles, focusing on the connections between thinking, emotion and physical movement. He discusses the importance of empathy in acting and tells how to achieve it in animation.

About the Workshop:

Acting For Animators involves group improvisations, lecture on acting theory and deconstruction of scenes from live-action and animated films. The basic thrust of Acting For Animators is an examination of the correlation between thinking, emotion and physical action. Content will include:

The psychology of physical movement. (Movement is a result of thought, emotion.)

Negotiations within a scene, value of conflict.

Playing Actions, Pursuing Objectives.

Character Analysis

Empathy -- what it is, why it's important, how to get it

About Ed Hooks

Ed Hooks teaches Acting For Animators internationally. A partial list of past engagements include workshops for PDI, Tippett Studio, Wild Brain, OddWorld Inhabitants, Lucas Learning, Electronic Arts (LA), Will Vinton Studios, Valve Software, Big Idea (Chicago), Scanline Productions (Munich) and Mondo Media. He has taught at Filmakademie Baden-Worttemberg in Ludwigsburg, Germany as well HFF in Potsdam, Nanyang Polytechnic Institute in Singapore and Columbia College in Chicago. He has twice been a featured speaker at FMX in Stuttgart and at animation conferences in Teesside, England. His book "Acting For Animators" is published by Heinemann

About Kumar Jacob

Kumar Jacob has worked for several companies at a senior management and directorate level. He held the position of Vice-President - Corporate Affairs at Criterion Software, a subsidiary of electronics giant Canon, where he was responsible for finance, human resources and information systems.

Kumar gained an MBA from Cranfield University School of Management and sits on several boards including, the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and also chairs its Charitable Funds Trust. Kumar is a trustee of Christian Aid. www.twelvej.com
