Transmission Games lays off over 20 staff members

Developer cuts workforce following release of Ashes Cricket 2009

Melbourne-based developer Transmission Games has laid off more than 20 staff members following the successful release of Ashes Cricket 2009, which topped the UK charts in August.

Reasons for the redundancies are unclear, but employees were reportedly notified of the company's position yesterday, according to Gamasutra.

The independent studio is one of Australia's longest running, having been founded in 1996 under the name IR Gurus.

It subsequently went on to make its name with a wealth of sports and flight sim games, including Brian Lara Pressure Play and the AFL series. This year, the studio released combat flight game Heroes Over Europe - the sequel to 2005's Heroes of the Pacific - and Ashes Cricket, across multiple platforms.

The studio hasn't announced any new projects since its two high profile releases this year and no further details as to the nature of the lay offs has yet come from Transmission.
