TIGA Awards 2006

Developer community recognises peer group achievements.

The 4th annual TIGA Awards were presented at the trade body's Xmas dinner on Wednesday 13th December, by Chairman Ian Baverstock.

In what TIGA likes to compare to the Professional Footballer Awards, where the players vote for their peers Philip Oliver of Leamington based Blitz Games picked up the prestigious peer group accolade of best industry player for Blitz's impressive ability to move fast into new areas of opportunity for the industry.

Philip Oliver, CEO of Blitz Games commented, "I am delighted and honoured to have won this year's Best Player Award, particularly as it is voted for by my competitors and peers in the industry. However, running a successful video game company isn't a one-man job and I'd like to thank everyone at Blitz for their continued hard work and enthusiasm."

The Kingsley Rebellion (Chris and Jason) picked up 2 awards for best handheld console- Miami Vice, and best developer as the company continues to expand dramatically across the country with new studios in the North -West and East Midlands.

York based Revolution Studios were the recipients of the Best Console and PC games with 'Broken Sword -Angel of Death'

And Dynamo Games carried the flag for Scotland with the award for best mobile game - Championship Manager 2006.

Brian McNicoll of Dynamo Games said "Winning the TIGA best mobile game award for Championship Manager 2006, for the second successive year, has been a truly satisfying accolade for the Dynamo team and we hope to be challenging for this honour for years to come."

Commented CEO Fred Hasson: 'Tiga has a community of developers who have grown to know each other and respect each other - its one of the benefits of membership, and although in the early years we had to bully and cajole people into getting their forms and votes in, that part of the effort gets less and the number of votes goes up'
