The Warriors: Street Brawl

Available from XBLA now.

HOLLYWOOD, CA – Sept. 23, 2009 – Paramount Digital Entertainment today announced that The Warriors: Street Brawl is now available for download on Xbox LIVE® Arcade (XBLA) for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, just in time to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the cult-classic film, “The Warriors.” Players can step into the role of a Warrior and brawl their way through gang-infested New York City trying to make it all the way back to Coney Island. In conjunction with the game release, Paramount Digital Entertainment has also launched The Warriors: Street Brawl Facebook app which allows users to challenge their friends and compete to determine who is the true Overlord of New York.

“Fans of ‘The Warriors’ can now become XBLA’s most notorious Warchief as they lead the ruthless action that made the film a cult classic,” said John Kavanagh, senior vice president, video games, Paramount Digital Entertainment. “ The Warriors: Street Brawl is an old-school brawler done right -- players can pick up and play this game and experience the story they love with gameplay and art design that truly revives the retro-feel of the film.”

Staying true to the storyline of the movie, The Warriors: Street Brawl begins at the gang summit in Van Cortland Park, where Cyrus, leader of all the gangs is assassinated. The players’ gang, The Warriors, is wrongfully accused of the murder, forcing the gang to attempt to leave Manhattan. On their way back to Coney Island, players will encounter hordes of notorious rival gangs out to get revenge. Players take on the role of one of the iconic Warriors including Swan, Cochise, Vermin and Rembrandt, as they fight to uphold the gang’s reputation as one of the toughest factions in New York and prove their innocence.

As gamers battle their way through the city, they will be able to build their entourage of Warriors by unlocking new playable characters including Mercy and Ajax. To overcome their enemies as they battle through each gameplay mission and mode, gamers can draw on an arsenal of weapons such as knives, bats, crowbars, 2x4’s and Molotov cocktails. The tension builds until the epic beach showdown against Luther, the devious leader of The Rogues.

The Warriors: Street Brawl features five modes and seven missions with three levels each, for a total of 21 arcade-style battles. In Single Player mode, players battle their way through the streets supported by AI backup. Local Multiplayer allows up to four Warriors to team up via co-op. In Online Multiplayer Co-Op, players recruit gangmates on XBLA to fight their way to Coney Island. Versus Mode lets players go head-to-head against their fellow gang members to uncover the true Warchief. Boss Mode puts gamers to the ultimate test as they are faced with a constant stream of boss fights in this unlockable mode that determines if players have what it takes to be the top dog.

The Warriors: Street Brawl Facebook Application

For fans that want to take the gritty, iconic turf battles of “The Warriors” to their social networks, Paramount Digital Entertainment is also unveiling The Warriors: Street Brawl Facebook application. To instigate a Facebook Street Brawl, users first choose one of the timeless gangs featured in the cult-classic film: The Rogues, the Lizzies, the Orphans, the Baseball Furies, the Hi-Hats, or the Turnbull ACs. Next, users challenge a friend to a battle, and select the personalized video that integrates their last name and chosen gang. Friends then vote for who they think would win the battle. If the player can score enough victories they’ll move up in rank, but if the player loses 15 challenges, they will need to retire or join another gang to clear their name. Additional content such as weapons will be added to the application soon. The app can be downloaded for free at http://apps.facebook.com/warriorsstreetbrawl/.
