The Sims 2 celebrates one million downloads

Popular franchise hits milestone after seven months

Downloads of Electronic Arts' The Sims 2 have passed the one million mark in Europe, in just seven months.

The one million mark is just the latest success for a franchise that has managed to sell approximately 70 million combined sales to date.

"We are very pleased with the success The Sims 2 is enjoying with European mobile customers," said Javier Ferreira, VP of European publishing for EA.

"We were confident that the universal popularity of the Sims franchise would translate well into mobile and would appeal to a new mobile audience."

"Our close relationships with mobile operators across Europe have been invaluable in reaching these 1 million Sims fans young and old," added Ferreira.

EA plans to launch The Sims 2 Pets for mobile handsets later this year.
