The Future Of Physics

Meqon Game Dynamics Version 1.5 Released

For Immediate Release:

July 10th. Meqon Research AB, is proud to announce the release of version 1.5 of its advanced Meqon Game Dynamics Software Development Kit (SDK) and is inviting game developers and publishers around the world to see the system in action and experience the future of game dynamics.

Over the past twelve months Meqon has signed deals with a number of the videogames industry's leading developers, including Atari, 3D Realms and Illusion Softworks to provide them with Meqon Game Dynamics. The company has also had its technology integrated directly into several developer's game engines. With the release of Meqon Game Dynamics 1.5, the company is determined to set new benchmarks for sophistication, stability, reliability, ease of implementation and support.

Meqon Game Dynamics 1.5 is based not only on a wide range of technical advances, but over 18 months of in-depth research undertaken with many development studios, working across all platforms. This focus on the developer ensures that the Meqon system is totally optimized and geared towards fast, efficient and flexible game development.

But don't just take Meqon's word for it. Anton Yudintsev, the CEO of Gaijin Entertainment, said, "We were impressed with Meqon's technical capabilities and the ease with which we could use their system to incorporate advanced physical capabilities into our game. The latest version of their SDK promises to redefine the standards the industry can expect from game dynamics and I'm looking forward to seeing the first titles which make use of the system."

Meqon has demonstrated its Game Dynamics system to the industry at both the 2005 Game Developer Conference and E3. The response from the industry has been overwhelming, encouraging the company to release a completely free version of it's system to developers for 30 days in April and release demo files to magazines and websites worldwide.

Jonas Lindqvist, the chief executive officer of Meqon Research, said, "The release of version 1.5 of our system incorporates a great many technical advances, which we believe gives us the most advanced game dynamics system in the world. However, we will not rest here. Meqon will continue to push the envelope of next generation physics with the 2.0 release targeted for Q4 2005."

Developers and publishers are invited to visit www.meqon.com to download Meqon Game Dynamics V1.5 with a full evaluation license.

Here come the technical bits:

New Features

  • Brand New Content Creation Tools - Rewritten for artists and designers who can now define and preview all of the physics parameters within 3D Studio Max or Maya.
  • Continuous Collision Detection - Meqon's new system uses a unique system which avoids expensive geometry sweeps/4D algorithms for faster, more accurate results, avoids tunneling and easily resolves penetration.
  • Debugging Tools. The Visual Remote Debugger incorporates improved visualization to make the process as quick and painless as possible.
  • Character Animation. Improved system ensures characters come alive with a number of new features to make this simple, painless and fun.
  • Memory Efficiency. The Meqon engine has been tweaked to ensure it's as efficient as possible of memory handling.
  • Market Leading Stability. Meqon Game Dynamics is simply the most robust and stable middleware system on the market.

Application Program Interface Features

  • Meqon Simulation Framework - The foundation of the API, designed specifically to allow the engine to be extended with a developers own technology.
  • Rigid Body Simulation - Massive interaction between solid geometries such as cars, walls, buildings, bullets and glass. Fill any scene with objects and then wreck it all - in real time.
  • Character Simulation - Create complex animal or biped characters quickly and simply. Meqon allows animation driven physics and 'physics driven inverse kinematics' to create comprehensive and consistent characters, regardless of their type.
  • Vehicle Simulation - Offers powerful, flexible and fully customizable vehicle modules. Create any type of vehicle from specific components including motors, wheels, axles, gearboxes, differentials etc. Supports everything from detailed high-end simulation to full-on arcade fun

Tools

  • Content Creation Tools - Completely rewritten for Meqon V1.5. The tools offer total flexibility. Artists can define entire scenes, complete with game dynamics and preview it in full 3D at the push of a button. Developers can also create more efficient and streamlined export systems by merging the output from Game Dynamics with game specific exporters through custom scripts.
  • Windows Profiling/Debugging Agent - Meqon Agent allows real-time performance monitoring and memory allocation, allowing precise tracking within the simulation.
  • Visual Remote Debugger For Windows - Completely flexible. The debugger can be connected to a simulation directly or remotely, in real time or off-line. Simulations can be played forwards and backwards to help track errors, or simply gain an overview of the scene.
  • Version 1.5 of Meqon Game Dynamics also includes numerous Source Code examples, custom vehicles, liquid surfaces, particle systems, actions, serialization, XML - and everything you need to quickly and painlessly build and prototype scenes and games.
  • Meqon Game Dynamics also comes with a complete suit of written documentation, covering everything from Getting Started through an Integration Guide, Developer Guide, API Reference, a comprehensive help and reference system and much, much more.
  • Meqon Game Dynamics supports all platforms and development environments including Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 2, Xbox, Mac and Linux.
