Texas governor signs tax breaks bill

US state ushers in incentives to battle losses in film production spending

Texas governor Rick Perry has now signed off on the entertainment incentives bill which will offer tax breaks to the film, television, video and digital interactive media industries.

The move is thought to be a response to the US state having lost a significant proportion of film work to other, more competitive regions, such as New Mexico.

"The passage of House Bill 873 is an important step in helping Texas regain its footing in the moving image business," said governor Perry in a statement on his official website. "With this legislation, we are strengthening our state's investment in a vital industry that not only shows off our state to the rest of the world, but also draws investment and creates jobs for Texans."
