Steam Iron: The Fallen

Crumpled shirts never an issue in what's billed as a Starcraft-like experience for Korean 3G phones.

For immediate release

April 2008

Korea, 10 April 2008 - Gamers in Korea with 3G mobile phones will now be able to celebrate the much anticipated arrival of Steam Iron: The Fallen- a true online RTS game tailored for mobile devices. Delivering a Starcraft-like experience on mobile phones, Steam Iron: The Fallen, with its seamless multiplayer gameplay, is set to appeal to the Korean gamer.

Steam Iron: The Fallen is the first installment in the Steam Iron franchise. Specially built for 3G networks, the game permits real-time head-2-head gameplay on mobile devices. Powered by Mikoishi’s Theatre engine which features unique spectator and television broadcast capabilities, Steam Iron players are allowed an unprecedented experience for a mobile game.

“Steam Iron: the Fallen, is another example of the unique interactive entertainment products Mikoishi is producing. By leveraging Theatre’s real-time broadcast and spectator features we developed for our PC online games we can now incorporate these unique features to our mobile product line thus enabling closer co-operation with traditional media.” said Alex Goatcher, Chief Creative Officer of Mikoishi.

Nexon Mobile and Mikoishi made an announcement in February 2008 on the agreement with OnMedia to publicise Steam Iron: The Fallen-game. Ongamenet is one of two South Korean cable television companies that specialize in broadcasting game related information and matches for online games like StarCraft and Warcraft.

Joonmo Kwon, Nexon Mobile’s CEO said “The Korean pro-gaming and e-sports market was born out of the overwhelming popularity of RTS games such as Blizzard’s Starcraft. We are confident that Steam Iron, with its seamless multiplayer gameplay, will appeal to the Korean gamer and will definitely generate a new generation of mobile game RTS fans. The initial buzz for Steam Iron as the “first real authentic RTS mobile game” has been extremely positive, ”

“Our Theatre technology will enable broadcasters to connect to a live game being played on our servers, and using in-game camera controls, selectively showcase the skills of expert players during a live match.” Alex Goatcher, Chief Creative Officer of Mikoishi adds.

In addition, to running TV Commercials, Ongamenet will also organize contests together with Nexon Mobile where the gaming community in South Korea can vote for their favourite Steam Iron video clip.

Steam Iron: The Fallen is slated to go live in Europe later in April, and in the USA, China and Taiwan later this year. Steam Iron 2 mobile will launch in Korea in November 2008.

About Steam Iron

Steam Iron, winner of the Technical Achievement Award in the Independent Games Festival (2008) in San Francisco, is another example of the unique interactive entertainment products Mikoishi is producing.

Steam Iron is an epic cross-platform sci-fi fantasy that plays out over multiple installments on both handheld and PC platforms. The adventure begins on 3G mobile with Steam Iron: The Fallen as the first installment in the Steam Iron franchise. Future installments are lined up for Mobile, Nintendo DS and PC platforms.

The Steam Iron fiction stems from an alternate history, projected far into future where the electronic revolution as we know it never occurred. Although the universe is recognizably futuristic, everything is grounded in the mechanical world. From inter-stellar space ships to advance communications, all technologies are decidedly retro in their derivations.

The story starts on an alternate Earth under the iron vice of the Ternion Empire which covers all known lands. The empire is a conference of the offices of the Emperor, his elusive elite guard (the Modan) and the misguided religious organization- Pax Imperium.

The story revolves around the power struggle within the Ternion as each of its factions fight for power and control.
