Stargate Resistance gets new developer

Dark Comet takes over licensed shooter as Stargate Worlds remains in limbo

New studio Dark Comet Games is to take over the maintenance and expansion of multiplayer shooter Stargate Resistance, in a new agreement with license holder FireSky.

Dark Comet is comprised of many of the original developers of Stargate Resistance, which finally launched in February of this year. The team is already planning to release a new map, two new gameplay styles and other new features in the "coming weeks".

A new television and Web-based advertising campaign will also begin on April 30.

Based on the ongoing TV and film franchise, Stargate Resistance was originally intended merely as an interim product as development of the troubled massively multiplayer online game Stargate Worlds continued.

Shortly after its release though Resistance was sold by original developer Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment (parent company of FireSky) to new start-up Fresh Start Studios. However, no mention is made of Fresh Start in the Dark Comet press release.

Speaking to website Gaming Shogun, Resistance producer Kathryn Dutchin confirmed that development of Stargate Worlds was still "on hold" and that FireSky has no current plans to show any new titles at E3 in June.
