Stainless to develop iPhone games

Xbox Live Arcade developer behind Battlezone and Tempest eyes Apple's handset

Stainless Games has announced that it has begun development on a number of titles for the Apple iPhone.

The unnamed titles are expected to be on sale through the iTunes games shop. The developer initially found success with the Carmageddon series and currently has 12 Xbox Live Arcade games either completed or in development, including Missile Command, Battlezone and Tempest.

"I personally go back a long way with Apple; having started out writing for Apple machines in 1979 - and have had a lot of success on Apple platforms over the years - particularly with Carmageddon 1 and 2, and my own Crystal Quest IP," said Stainless Games' CEO Patrick Buckland.

"Given recent trends, the iPhone is doubly interesting - since it's both a truly next-gen machine with an 'always-on' connection and a format with a great direct sales route to the consumer."
