Sony US kicks off new PSP promotion

New $9.99 UMD budget range introduced, plus three free games for PSPgo customers

Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) has unveiled its own new summer promotions for the PSP family of consoles, following a similar new marketing push in Europe.

To promote the PSP-3000 model SCEA will be launching a new budget-priced re-release line called Favourites, with a number of first and third party titles offered on UMD for just $9.99 (£7).

Nine Sony published titles will be included in the range, with Ape Escape: On the Loose, Buzz! Master Quiz, Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee (aka Everybody's Golf), LocoRoco 2, Patapon 2, PixelJunk Monster Deluxe, SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo, Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow, and Twisted Metal: Head On.

Third party games include Warner Bros.' Justice League Heroes and Midway Arcade Treasures, Rockstar's Manhunt 2 and The Warriors, Konami's Silent Hill: Origins, EA's The Sims 2, and Crave's Pinball Hall of Fame: Williams Collection.

At the same time, four higher profile titles will be added to the existing Greatest Hits range, which sell at $19.99 (£14). These are Gran Turismo, LittleBigPlanet, Resistance: Retribution and Secret Agent Clank.

In a separate promotion for the PSPgo, which does not support the UMD format, SCEA are introducing a new bundle with three games: LittleBigPlanet, Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters and SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3.

Customers who buy a PSPgo between June 1, 2010 and March 31st, 2011 will receive a PlayStation Network voucher allowing them to download the same three games, although it is implied that the available titles will change over time for both the hardware bundle and voucher system.

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe last week unveiled its own offer which includes ten free games for new PSPgo users - albeit from a different selection of games.
