SMU career event

Glittering list of studios to interview US graduates this week.

SMU/Dallas - November 18, 2009 – If The Guildhall at SMU’s upcoming career fair is any indication of the overall economic health of the U.S. video game industry, recovery might be right around the corner.

Eighteen major studios and publishers, with locations across the nation, are converging on SMU this week to interview 50 December graduates and alums as future artists, designers and programmers for their companies.

Studio and publishers participating in the event include Acropolis, Activision, America’s Army, BioWare, Blizzard Entertainment, Bonfire Studios, Budcat Creations, Controlled Chaos Media, Disney Interactive, Edge of Reality, LucasArts, Insomniac, KingsIsle, Obsidian Entertainment, TimeGate Studios, Total Immersion, Volition, and ZeniMax Media Inc.

“Interest in our graduating students is definitely up from last may,” said Dr. Peter Raad, executive director of The Guildhall at SMU. “This is our eleventh graduating class since we began the program in 2003 and job prospects for these students look good.”

Raad explained that one of the reasons SMU’s career events are so well attended is that in six short years, the program has graduated over 300 students who have worked at more than 80 studios around the world. “We are extremely fortunate to have such a large footprint in the industry with our alumni working at most of the top studios in the world. Our graduates provide a strong statement about the quality of our program and how it prepares them for their careers.”
