Sega reveals Mega Drive Mini

Publisher's entry into the mini console market begins with Japan-only release

Sega has revealed plans for new hardware with the announcement of the the Mega Drive Mini.

Currently slated for a Japan-only release, the Mega Drive Mini clearly follows in the footsteps of Nintendo's remarkably popular mini console series.

The Japanese publisher unveiled the Mega Drive Mini during Sega Fes 2018, though details are sparse.

Scheduled to launch in conjunction with Sega's 30th anniversary, the Mega Drive Mini will include an unspecified number of classic Sega titles.

It has been reported that AtGames -- which has previously built licensed mini consoles for Sega such as the Genesis Mini -- will provide the hardware.

However, the announcement has since been removed from the company's Facebook page.
