Scaleform GFx

Version 4.0 of Flash-based middleware to be shown off at GDC Online.

GREENBELT, MD – Oct 1, 2010 – Scaleform® Corporation (Scaleform), the leading provider of Flash®-based middleware and user interface (UI) solutions for the videogame and consumer electronic industries, today announced that the new GFx 4.0 will begin supporting Flash 10 ActionScript® 3.0 (AS3), as well as boost performance by at least 2x and in some cases up to 5x over previous versions. This new compatibility and performance, which will be shown publicly for the first time at GDC Online in Booth 216, allows developers to harness the full power of Flash and AS3 to design high performance, cross-platform user interfaces and casual games for a wide variety of devices.

Compatibility with both AS2 and AS3 will allow the full range of Flash developers to use their skills in the console, PC and mobile gaming industry, giving game studios using Scaleform GFx access to a much larger talent pool. What’s more, full support for the faster and more robust ActionScript 3 gives game developers the ability to create more impressive menus and interfaces, while also opening up new doors for casual game developers to port their web games to native apps on mobiles and consoles.

“With the improved performance and resources available with Flash 10/AS3 support, developers can create richer content and animations in less time than before,” said Grant Skinner, world renowned Flash expert and CEO of gskinner.com. “I personally think developers will love designing interfaces, even complete experiences, with the new version of Scaleform GFx 4.”

“Scaleform’s support for the latest Flash 10 and ActionScript 3 is core to the company’s strategy going into 2011,” said Brendan Iribe, cofounder, president and CEO of Scaleform. “The Flash 10 gaming market has seen incredible growth recently, and we believe that our new support for Flash 10, AS3, and major performance enhancements will allow developers to reach a new level of AAA user interface and casual game development on PCs, consoles and mobiles.”

“Scaleform’s consistently innovative technology is leading the way in interface design,” said Tim Sweeney, founder of Epic Games. “Now with better performance and support for Flash 10 and AS3, as well as its tighter out-of-the-box interoperability with the Unreal Engine and UDK, it is the ideal solution for game developers working on any modern platform.”

To see the latest technology from Scaleform, stop by Scaleform’s booth at GDC Online (Booth 216). For those that cannot make it to the show, previews of the latest technology are available upon request.
