Sales legend Peretzman quits NOA

Randy Peretzman, Nintendo of America’s vice president of sales, has announced his retirement and will be replaced by current director of sales Kevan Wilson at the start of the coming year.

Randy Peretzman, Nintendo of Americaâs vice president of sales, has announced his retirement and will be replaced by current director of sales Kevan Wilson at the start of the coming year.

Peretzman is widely charged with being a key part of Nintendoâs ascension in the 80s and 90s, and was launching consoles with the company as far back as the NES in 1985.

"Randy has made significant contributions to the success of every new hardware and software launch," said Nintendo of America president Tatsumi Kimishima.

Back in the day, Peretzman literally hawked the NES out of a suitcase in New York to secure the interest of retailers, and has since become synonymous internally with maintaining market share throughout the 90s, into the GameCube era and on to the current handheld contest with Sony.

Peretzman moved to Seattle with the company in 1992 as director of sales, as Nintendoâs products took hold in the American market. In 1996 he made the jump to vice president of sales.

He will be replaced by Kevan Wilson on January 6, 2006. Wilson himself was a regional sales manager, and currently fulfils the role of director of sales.
