RESFEST 2004: Creators of Getaway 2 & Red vs Blue join panel at NFT event!

TICKETED EVENT: FILMMAKING AND GAMING, GAMING AND FILMMAKING

Sunday 3 October, NFT1, 2030.

We can now confirm that the VIP guests sitting on the panel will include the creators of Getaway 2 (soon to be released) and the Red Vs Blue team - pioneers of machinima and gaming/cinema parody (this will be their first UK visit).

The event has changed time - it is Sunday 3rd October at 8:30pm

(rather than 2.30pm)

As cinema and gaming merge, the essential qualities of both are evolving. Feature films are getting faster and more immersive, for example, while games are growing increasingly complex in terms of storytelling. This panel discussion explores the crossover of gaming and film production as leading creatives from both industries talk about their experiences working in this emerging territory. Using as a test case The Getaway 2 (the eagerly anticipated sequel to 2001's hugely successful The Getaway) there will be discussion of new trends in narrative, the evolution of spatial experiments and the use of the gaming engines in creating machinima and game-influenced films. With its focus on the nuts and bolts of production, this talk is a must for filmmakers and game lovers alike.

SPECIAL SCREENING / TICKETED EVENT: GAMING INSPIRED

Saturday 2 October, NFT3, 1410.

While most attempts to adapt popular video game titles into satisfying traditional narrative feature films have failed, there are numerous examples of inspired game/cinema collisions. Indeed, from the wealth of short form work submitted to RESFEST each year, it's clear that video games are having a dramatic impact on the fundamental language of music video and narrative cinema. With this special program, RESFEST examines the convergence of the two forms, highlighting successful hybrids in the work of Ben Stokes, Shynola, Dayton Farris, H5, Lobo, Ghostmilk Studios, Johnny Hardstaff and many more.
