Report: Microsoft partners with LG for 3D gaming

Platform holder strikes deal with television manufacturer to offer 3D games from June

Microsoft has struck a deal with television manufacturer LG that will see it jointly marketing Xbox 360 3D games, according to a report published today.

Going on a Korean press release translated by Engadget, it seems the two companies will jointly market 3D-capable LG TVs with 3D Xbox 360 games from this June onwards.

No mention is made of new hardware or a system update for the Xbox 360, similar to the one Sony has released for the PlayStation 3 in order to unlock 3D capabilities.

According to the release, the launch will begin in South Korea and - if successful - could be expanded through the Asia Pacific region.

Sony's first 3D TVs have been packaged with a number of 3D adapted PS3 games, while the company is also set to film 25 World Cup matches in 3D this year, in conjunction with FIFA.
