Record Number of Applicants for Blitz Open Days

22nd January 2008. Blitz Games, one of Europe's leading independent game studios today announced a record-breaking number of submissions for their ground-breaking Open Days.

Kim Blake, Education Liaison Officer at Blitz Games commented, "The Open Days have definitely struck a chord with lecturers and students from all corners of the UK. We're delighted with the response. Previous Open Days have had a positive impact on the way that games courses are structured and development is taught."

She continued, "The Open Days are providing a valuable insight into how games are made and how a studio operates. This is information that can't be obtained any other way. Blitz is determined and committed to working with the educational institutions to continually improve the courses on offer and thereby the quality of graduates entering our fast growing industry."

The Open Days - an innovative initiative undertaken by the studio - are designed to present students and lecturers with a unique opportunity to tour a successful videogame studio, talk with staff, learn about each of the career paths/disciplines available and obtain advice on applications and portfolio preparation. Applications are now closed.

Mike Bithell, an Open Day attendee from 2007, enthused "Attending the Blitz Open Day was a massive opportunity. The day introduced me to all areas of game development, giving me a broader sense of the various talents brought to bear on a game. Along with this wider view I got advice specific on my chosen discipline, and I even grabbed some tips for my final year project. The tour of the studio gave me a real insight into the way game developers actually work, solidifying my career goals. The organiser's managed to really pull off a great blend of info and enjoyment, leaving me with a great impression of the company and the industry."

Blitz Games recently won the EDGE and 'Special Achievement' Awards (Warwickshire Employer of Choice Awards) and is known to have one of the industry's best working environments with staff enjoying a range of benefits while developing some of the biggest selling videogames on PlayStation®2, Nintendo Wii®, GameCube, Xbox and Xbox 360.
