Rebellion celebrates independent success

Studio bosses hail status as Europe's top independent studio, and promise that "there's definitely more to come"

Following the announcement of the latest developer rankings by UK sales in 2007, Rebellion is celebrating its position as the top independent studio in Europe.

The company saw UK sales hit GBP 20.1 million off the back of its Simpsons and Star Wars Battlefront titles, and Jason Kingsley - CEO and creative director - was delighted.

"Rebellion has been in this business for 16 years and never once have we tired of striving to develop innovative, exciting and above all, quality games.

"Our successes in 2007-8 have been the culmination of product focus, fantastic publisher relationships, inward investment and recruiting the very best people in the business.

"Now we've reached number one in Europe, please don't expect us to slow down!"

CTO Chris Kingsley added: "Overall, 2007-8 could be called our best year so far, but we have a number of projects fully underway which we believe will push Rebellion even higher in the rankings, so there's definitely more to come!"

The company, founded by brothers Chris and Jason in 1992, was also responsible for PC hit Aliens vs Predator in 1999 and won two BAFTA Awards for Rogue Trooper in 2006.
