rAge 2009

Doors open on Johannesburg expo

[Johannesburg 2 October 2009] The doors to rAge 2009 opened today for the seventh rendition of South Africa’s biggest gaming and technology exhibition, featuring a sizzling hot line-up of top names in the industry strutting their stuff with a string of new releases and brand spanking new equipment and games.

“rAge 2009 has experienced a fantastic first day. Organisers were greeted this morning with a queue of visitors vying to lose themselves in the technological wonderland featuring some of the best the industry has to offer, game developers demonstrating sneak previews of upcoming titles in addition to a host of brand new equipment and gear that is guaranteed to have any techno junkie screaming for more,” says rAge 2009 Show Director Michael James.

The line-up of events planned for the remainder of the weekend is nothing short of spectacular:

Samsung will be hosting the World Cyber Games Guitar Hero: World Tour National SA Championships on Saturday, 3 October 2009. Players will do a 1 vs 1 battle in Guitar Hero: World Tour on Xbox 360 for a chance to compete against the winners from 72 other countries in the 6th annual World Cyber Games Grand Finals taking place in Chengdu, China from 11-15 November 2009. The SA winner from rAge 2009 will be flown to China to compete in the WCG Grand Finals.

On Sunday 4 October 2009 from 11h00 – 13h00 Idols finalists Graeme Watkins and Munro du Toit will once again take centre stage for the ultimate sing-off contest. Watkins and du Toit both earned third place in the last two respective seasons of South African Idols and will once again battle it out on stage, each singing a song from Xbox 360’s Lips.

Some of the attractions to watch out for are the Anime Cinema screening some of the latest and greatest anime titles in addition to a café, PlayStation 3 gaming tournaments, Fan Art and Cosplay (anime costume creation) areas.

Spart1e and l1nkje, two players of the Swedish based Fnatic.MSI team are participating in the Quake tournament taking place this weekend at rAge 2009. See them in action on the big screen and marvel at the deadly precision at which these players obliterate the competition.

Whatever you’re doing this weekend, don’t miss rAge 2009!
