PRESS PLAY - The Art of Digital Games

Exhibition of game graphics to begin later this month in Bergen, Norway.

Saturday, 18 September 2010, the first exhibition devoted to computer game graphics ever to be held in a Norwegian art museum will open.

With the exhibition PRESS PLAY – The Art of Digital Games, Permanenten West Norway Museum of Decorative Art, in Bergen, seeks to present the breadth and variation of visual expression in today’s digital games.

In the course of its short history, the digital game has changed from being a small medium for a small group, to becoming an important cultural expression that concerns almost everyone. The museum wants to showcase the tremendous amount of artistic work involved in developing these games, on par with what we find in other artistic genres.

With well-established game producers and smaller independent game developers represented, the emphasis is on Nordic games designed for entertainment. In order to show historical development, selected non-Nordic classics are also featured.

The exhibition will be on show at Permanenten West Norway Museum of Decorative Art from 18 September 2010 through 20 February 2011.
