POWERVR SHOWS THE WAY TO BRING CONSOLE QUALITY GAMING TO MOBILES

PowerVR Presents At Khronos OpenGL ES Developer Event

London, UK: Imagination Technologies - a leader in system-on-chip intellectual property - is demonstrating advanced hardware graphics support for the OpenGL ES API on its PowerVR MBX embedded graphics core at the Khronos Developer University event in London on September 1st (see: http://www.khronos.org/news/events.html).

The event at London's Ibis Hotel, Earl's Court will feature a keynote speech by Jon Peddie of Jon Peddie Research (www.jonpeddie.com) and a wide portfolio of presentations, including two from PowerVR. PowerVR's Phil Atkin will present 'The challenge of migration : desktop to handheld', focusing on transferring applications from the desktop CPU environment to mobile devices. Nicolas Thibieroz will present on 'Harnessing The Horsepower Of OpenGL ES Hardware Acceleration', with particular emphasis on the effective use of hardware-accelerated implementations. PowerVR's MBX embedded graphics hardware will be demonstrated at the event.

PowerVR MBX has already been licensed to leading semiconductor manufacturers including Intel, Philips, Renesas, Samsung, Sunplus and Texas Instruments, and is available for licensing direct from Imagination Technologies or from ARM (for integration with ARM processor cores). Processors integrating PowerVR MBX already announced include Intel's 2700G, Renesas' SH-M3 and TI's OMAP2 2410 and 2420. PowerVR MBX is ready to enable a content revolution in mobile gaming.

Says John Metcalfe, VP Business Development (PowerVR), Imagination Technologies: "PowerVR MBX has an industry leading feature set for mobile graphics including skinning, FSAA, internal 32-bit precision, T&L, Dot3 per pixel lighting, curved surface support and texture compression. We are delighted to support this event and bring PowerVR - and its OpenGL ES support - to this audience."

From 1-3 September 2004 London will be home to the world of gaming in all its forms with two games industry shows running at the same time. ECTS runs from 1-3 September at Earls Court while EGN is at ExCel on the same dates.

Continues Metcalfe: "The brightest and best of the games development industry are in London for a few days and this is the ideal time to bring PowerVR, which has already been adopted as the de facto standard for mobile graphics by the world's leading semiconductor manufacturers, to a wider audience in the development community."

The event will close with Panel Discussions with various Khronos Members - led by Kathleen Maher of Tech Watch.
