Pocket God

Three 64GB iPod touches to be won in Twitter contest.

SAN FRANCISCO - Sept. 9, 2009

Bolt Creative, the independent game development studio behind the iPhone sensation Pocket God, is celebrating today’s launch of Apple’s next generation iPod Touch with a contest that taps into their fans’ creativity and shared sense of humor. In addition, the company is releasing usage statistics that shed light on the unique demographic reached by the runaway hit deity simulator.

The contest, which asks fans to submit amusing pictures of themselves playing Pocket God via Twitter, aims to highlight the ingenuity of the game’s fanbase – an imaginative group already responsible for over 3,000 videos on YouTube, as well as other feats of creativity.

“Our fans have shown a ton of creativity in the past and we want to encourage it!” said Dave Castelnuovo, co-creator and developer of Pocket God. “We’re going to go through all the photo submissions and pick our three favorites, and reward three of those uniquely gifted folks with a prize worthy of a deity – one of today’s newly-announced 64GB iPod Touches!”

“What are we looking for? Creativity. Or shall we say, God-like masterpieces?” said Allan Dye, the game’s co-creator and artist. “We can only imagine what clever ideas our fans will come up with – we just plan on picking photos that make us say ‘yeah, that’s the one.'”

Bolt Creative began tracking usage statistics for Pocket God in April, and over the course of several months has discovered insights into the game’s users. Notably, over 50% of Pocket God players enjoy the game on an iPod Touch – almost twice as many as the majority of games on the platform, which average around 30% of sales from the iPod Touch.

“We think the fact that Pocket God users skew more towards the iPod Touch than most other games backs up what we already knew from interactions with our fervent community: we reach a largely untapped market of teens, tweens, parents and their kids,” said Castelnuovo. “Among those users are some very dedicated deities: since launch, Pocket God has been opened more than 50 million times by roughly 1.5 million unique users. Astonishingly, we’ve seen quite a few days like September 3rd, where 8,400 unique users launched the game over 352,000 times – an average of 41 sessions per user in a single 24-hour period.”
