Pocket Gamer

One of The Guardian's Top 100 websites for the third year running.

For Immediate Release

London, UK – 15th December 2009 – Steel Media is proud to announce that PocketGamer.co.uk has been named as one of the Top 100 essential websites of 2009 by The Guardian newspaper. It is the third time the site has been selected as one of the leading representatives of gaming, having been included in both the 2007 and 2008 selections.

Pocket Gamer has, since 2006, tirelessly focused on portable play – be it on mobile or handheld – and has grown to adapt its coverage as new formats such as iPhone and Android have emerged. In its summing up of Pocket Gamer’s inclusion the Guardian referred to the publication as “still by far the best site on handheld gaming.”

“I'm absolutely delighted that we've been named in the Guardian's prestigious best 100 sites list for the third year running, although I can't really take any credit,” stated Chris James, Steel Media’s MD. “It's really a testament to all the hard work and dedication invested by site editor Rob Hearn and his brilliant team throughout 2009 and, of course, all our readers who've supported us over the last three years.

“With the advent of new smartphone platforms and app stores such as Android and Ovi, the seemingly unstoppable march of the iPhone and the renewed handheld efforts of Nintendo and Sony, portable gaming is going to be even bigger news next year and Pocket Gamer will remain dedicated to providing the very best coverage for gamers on the go.”
