"Prepared to ignite the already hot rewards-based gaming space," apparently.

New York, NY – October 6, 2010 – Playhem.com is a social network built on friends challenging friends at videogames, developing micro-communities of players of comparable levels who want to up the competitive stakes legally and safely. Playhem.com has been in development under the working title GameSetCash.com. Now as it approaches public beta, it can announce the addition of senior executives and the closing of its first round of funding.

“Playhem.com is prepared to ignite the already hot rewards-based gaming space,” said Chris Madden, co-founder and Business Director at Playhem.com. “We are the first social network that lets connected groups of trusted players spice up the competition, without the risk of professional hustlers or people not paying up. You’re not going to play a round of golf for money when the other guys in your foursome are all on the PGA tour!”

As Playhem.com lays the foundation for growth, it is pleased to announce the addition of three executives to its board: Charles Bellfield, Steven N. Kane, and George Miller. Charles Bellfield, who will act as Interim CEO of Playhem.com, was previously the General Manager of 3DV Systems Inc (acquired by Microsoft Xbox in 2009) and Vice President of Marketing at Capcom. He brings 16 years experience within the interactive entertainment industry as Playhem eyes strategic alliances with game publishers and developers, as well as media partnerships. Steven N. Kane is the founder and CEO of Full Circle Media. Previously he was co-founder and CEO of GameLogic, which was recently acquired by Scientific Games (NYSE: SGMS), and prior to that Chairman and CEO of the pioneering Gamesville, which was acquired by Lycos Network in 1999.  George Miller is a lawyer with over three decades of experience, whose past and current clients include some of the largest gaming companies in the world.

“There’s a shift underway from random multiplayer gaming to ‘friends playing friends’, low stakes competition, within their own communities,” said Charles Bellfield. “Playhem is positioned to lead the way in games-of-skill and our technology scales from console, PC, web to mobile, delivering new, fun and rewarding gameplay within a safe and friendly environment.”

Playhem.com recently closed a new round of financing, a testament to the social network’s distinct approach to the future of rewards-based gaming. In addition to serious investments in web technology, back-end security, and community management, Playhem.com’s infusion of capital is being used to develop mobile applications that give its players access to the community from any location.
