Lord of the Rings movie director Peter Jackson has confirmed his Halo videogame project is no longer in development.
Jackson announced back in 2006 that he would work with Bungie on a new game in the series, alongside a planned movie of the franchise, which was also cancelled some time ago.
"That Halo project is no longer happening, it sort of collapsed when the movie didn't end up happening," Jackson told Joystiq.
"Microsoft has a whole strategy with the Halo property, and when the rights expired with the two studios, that sort of ended my involvement with the project," added Jackson. "That fell apart because of internal politics at Fox and Universal. It had nothing to do with the budget or anything else. In fact, we hadn't even been greenlit at all at that point."
At the time of the original announcement, Jackson had praised the Xbox 360 and its Live service as “an amazing living canvas” for new interactive entertainment possibilities.
"My vision, together with Microsoft Game Studios, is to push the boundaries of game development and the future of interactive entertainment.
"From a movie-maker's point of view, it is clear to me that the Xbox 360 platform is the stage where storytellers can work their craft in the same way they do today with movies and books but taking it further with interactivity," he said.
