Pearl Digital ISO 27001 certification

Chinese outsourcing provider earns official thumbs-up for its security management system,

Shanghai, China - July 11, 2008 - Pearl Digital Entertainment, a leading Computer & Video Game outsourced development services provider announced today that its wholly-owned Shanghai-based Production Centre has successfully been accredited ISO 27001 certified for its rigorous Information Security Management System. The certificate was issued by TÜV NORD Group, a leading management system conformity assessment provider to organizations worldwide. Pearl Digital is one of the first Computer & Video Game outsourcing providers to receive this comprehensive and internationally-recognized security management system certification.

The ISO 27001 certification demonstrates that Pearl Digital has the highest level of commitment to ensure appropriate and detailed security controls are in place at all times. This system adopts a thorough process for establishing, implementing, operating, monitoring, reviewing, maintaining, and improving Pearl Digital’s information systems and asset protection. ISO 27001 is considered the toughest security management system in the world and Pearl Digital is proud to have attained this.

Outsourcing for the Computer & Video Games Industry is increasingly becoming highly strategic, and in China in particular, for many leading game publishers and developers globally, from Fortune 1000 companies down to smaller independent developers, who all value and place Intellectual Property (“IP”) protection as a top priority alongside the quality of work that can be produced by their service providers. Pearl Digital’s commitment to our clients’ IP protection is unique and peer leading via this multi-month design through implementation and assessment process which entails system-wide annual third-party audits to gain and maintain ISO 27001 certification.

Commenting on obtaining certification, Troy Horton, Pearl Digital CEO and Founder said, “Pearl Digital is one of the first, if not the first, Computer & Video Game outsourcing specialists globally to receive this certification. At Pearl we focus on offering internationally accepted quality of services along with internationally accepted standards of conducting business, with the ultimate benefits being passed on to our highly valued clients and partners. Via this certification we significantly address the industry concerns our clients and partners may have regarding security and IP protection when outsourcing. Our ISO 27001 certification embodies 11 domains of competence, namely: Security Policy; Asset Management; Business Continuity Management; Communications & Operations Management; Human Resource Security; Information Security Incident Management; Physical & Environment Security; Compliance; Information Systems, Acquisition, Development & Maintenance; Access Control; and Organizing Information Security.”

Adam Boswick, Pearl Digital CFO and Co-Founder added, “This certification represents a significant milestone for Pearl Digital, and we hope our clients view this as a further testament to our industry-leading corporate governance standards and IP security protocols. This important step clearly demonstrates how seriously Pearl Digital values our clients’ IP and how professionally we handle it. Accreditation and compliance with this highly rigorous system is also a significant differentiator versus our peers, and our clients should view this as a new benchmark within their service provider decision-set. Notably, this significant time and resource investment was, and remains, a tremendous pan-Company effort. The entire Pearl Digital Team is committed to our ISO 27001 ethos and working standard, and the robust policies and implementation procedures which support this are fundamental to our operating culture. We thank our partners at KPMG Risk Advisory Services for their thorough and meticulous assistance throughout, and for the professionalism of TÜV NORD Group, considered to be at the highest standard globally of ISO independent third-party certification bodies.”

Pearl Digital not only provides a focus on high quality production and lowered production costs to clients but also the protection of client IP. In this modern age where piracy and IP theft are unfortunately common, a focus on this effort goes hand-in-hand with production quality to ensure Pearl Digital remains competitive and peer-leading via its highly differentiating operating best practices.

Notably, other Pearl Digital security efforts include: secure networks; high-end firewall hardware; end-point device control and blocking; 24/7 on-site security guards; biometric access and logged entry; non-invasive CCTV covering the office interior and external public areas; as well as internet content filtering and monitoring to name but a few. In addition to the above, Pearl Digital prioritizes and retains an open, harmonious and familial culture for its Team to thrive happily and produce world-class work for our clients. Great corporate culture and rigorous client IP security do indeed go hand-in–hand at Pearl Digital.
