Magazine's passing to be marked by auction of "priceless stuff from the office" in support of GamesAid.

London, 3rd June 2010 – GamesAid, a UK games industry charity for children and young people, has begun auctioning a plethora of collectable memorabilia and promotional items donated by Future‘s PC Zone magazine, as its last ever issue goes on sale.

PC Zone was first published in April 1993. As the first UK magazine dedicated exclusively to PC games, it was sold with two accompanying floppy disks carrying game demonstrations. PC Zone evolved alongside a then booming PC gaming market, selling an estimated 7.5 million copies in its lifetime.

The final issue of PC Zone includes a retrospective of the magazine’s amazing 17-year history, a look at the best and worst PC games, and personal testimonials from industry luminaries such as Mark Rein, Ken Levine, Peter Molyneux and Greg Zeschuk.

The auction being held on GamesAid’s Ebay Store at http://shop.ebay.co.uk/gamesaid/m.html includes a variety of PC games and lots of “collectible” money-can’t-buy gaming merchandise like posters, t-shirts and unique items never sold to the public.

James Binns, Head of Edge International and PC Gaming for Future, said: “After 17 years of uniquely irreverent gaming coverage it was a hard decision to close PC Zone, but the final issue can go out on a happier note knowing that our lovingly-accumulated collection of priceless stuff-from-the-office is supporting a charity like GamesAid. We’ll be tracking the auction on PCGamer.com”

Andy Payne, Chairman of GamesAid, said: “I join the rest of the games industry in saying a fond farewell to PC Zone. For many of us, its anarchic gaming editorial has been with us our entire careers. We would like to extend our gratitude to Zone’s team for donating such a unique collection of memorabilia for this eBay auction, and urge everyone to snap up a piece of gaming history for themselves by buying a copy of PC Zone’s last ever issue!”

All fundraising donations are gratefully received at www.justgiving.com/gamesaid.
