Orbital Defence

Flick-based shoot-'em-up available on the App Store now.

Sydney, Australia – November 25, 2009 – membraine studios' genre-defining flick-based shoot-'em-up (flick-shmup) for the iPhone and iPod Touch, Orbital Defence, has arrived on the iTunes App Store.

Orbital Defence is an arcade-style, flick-based shoot-'em-up (flick-shmup) for the iPhone and iPod Touch reminiscent of the great shoot-'em-ups of the past, such as Galaga, Missile Command and Space Invaders.

What makes Orbital Defence unique is its flick-based control system, which makes the most of the iPhone's touch-oriented control surface—the result of which is a highly playable and great fun shoot 'em up that you can play in a cafe, on the train, on the bus, in the pub...anywhere you take your iPhone or iPod Touch.

"We're really proud of Orbital Defence because it does what games should: the flick mechanic offers a new experience, and the game is great fun. We really think the gaming community is going to dig it," co-game designer Mark Sheppard said."While it is fundamentally a shoot-em-up, we believe Orbital Defence is genre-defining in the context of the iPhone, in the sense that its flick-based shooting mechanic separates it from traditional shooters. It's not as radical as the shift to a first-person perspective that separated, say, Duke Nukem 3D from Duke Nukem 1 and 2, but we really think it's a step in the right direction for the iPhone. We're hoping to see more games embrace the iPhone's control surface for what it is."

Orbital Defence offers a 12-level Campaign mode to post your scores and track your ranking on the Worldwide Leaderboards, as well as Survival mode, where accuracy and planning are thrown out the window and your only goal is to survive as long as you can.

You can purchase Orbital Defence via the iTunes App Store using the following URL: http://itunes.com/apps/OrbitalDefence

membraine studios also recently entered Orbital Defence in the 2010 Independent Games Festival (IGF) Mobile competition.
