OnLive portfolio grows with day-one release of Mafia II

Cloud gaming service increases day-and-date sales of top tier games

Cloud gaming service OnLive has increased its portfolio of day-and-date releases by confirming that 2K's Mafia II will be available from the service as soon as it's released in the US, the same time as retail and other digital channels.

The announcement sees Mafia II join a significant list of other titles available from the service, which launched in the US two months ago.

OnLive users paying full price for the game will be able to choose another game from the service for free.

The acquisition of such a high-profile title on launch day is a major step for the server-based gaming service, showing an increased level of publisher faith in the company. The service also recently secured day-one access for Square Enix's Kane & Lynch 2, which topped the UK charts on its first week of release.

No date has yet been set for a UK launch of OnLive, although it has been confirmed that BT has been made a partner for the service.
