Obsidian Entertainment: "No microtransactions, of any kind, in our game"

Developer addresses consumer concerns following recent partnership with Take-Two Interactive's indie publishing arm, Private Division

Obsidian Entertainment has drawn a line in the sand, with the studio claiming its next project with not feature any kind of microtransactions.

The developer made the announcement in a recent forum post in response to questions from fans.

"The answer is simply: 'no.' No microtransactions, of any kind, in our game," said Obsidian.

Back in November, Take-Two Interactive announced that it was looking to include "recurrent consumer spending" in all of its future titles.

While Obsidian is not an obvious candidate for employing microtransactions, its recently announced partnership with Private Division, the indie-focused publishing arm of Take-Two, clearly prompted a level of concern from fans.

However, Obsidian were quick to reassure consumers that the studio's vision will not be compromised by Take-Two Interactive's approach to monetisation.

"Far from 'pushing' us to put anything -- microtransactions or otherwise -- into our game, Private Division has been incredibly supportive of our vision, our creative freedom, and the process by which we work to make RPGs," said Obsidian.

"They have been fantastic partners, and we are extremely excited to work with them through release, to put what we know is going to be an amazing game into as many hands as possible."
