Nordic Game 2009

Host of gaming stars in Malmø next week.

A large number of the world’s most important game personalities will come to Malmø next week to speak to, inspire and entertain participants at Nordic Game 2009.The conference will be opened by the Icelandic Minister of Culture.

Amongst the international highlights you will be able to experience Suda 51, Grashopper, (No More Heroes), Ian Bowden, Rockstar (Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars), Alex Evans, Media Molecule (LittleBigPlanet), Ryan Schneider, Insomniac (Resistance), Ian Stevens, Tigon (The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena) and a host of focused technology sessions from Micro! soft, Qube, Geomerics, Autodesk and Sony, who will present case studies from some exciting titles with a particular emphasis on Killzone 2.

Nordic success stories

One of the goals of the Nordic Game conference is to give the region’s games companies a presentation window to the outside world, and this year it once again offers a number of speakers from the most successful games developers in the Nordic countries. The audience will be able to pick up gold nuggets from Lars Gustavsson, DICE (Battlefield, Mirror’s Edge etc.), Calle Lejdfors, IO Interactive (Hitman-series), Nathan Richardsson, CCP (EVE Online), and not least Nicholas Francis from Danish Unity, which has just had major international success in creating development tools for game production.

Funding for new games

The Icelandic Minister of Culture, Katr&! iacute;n Jakobsdóttir, will give the official opening speech at the conference on 19 May. She will take this opportunity to give out DKK 3 million to new Nordic games projects as part of the support scheme which, like the actual Nordic Game conference, is an important part of the Nordic Game Program (more info at www.nordicgameprogram.org).

As well as speakers and seminars, Nordic Game 2009 packs in a large number of other events and activities. A huge exhibition hall will present new Nordic games and related products; the best Nordic games of the year will be chosen at Nordic Game Awards 2009; the business area Nordic BizLounge will facilitate networking and private meetings for participants; and students from the region's creative training schools are invited to a special Career Expo day for a rewarding and potentially career-making experience.
