The International Game Developers Association (IGDA) has announced the opening of nominations for its 6th annual industry-voted Game Developers Choice Awards, to be presented at the Game Developers Conference in March.

IGDA members who visit the awards website between now and the 13th January can register their nominations across more than a dozen categories, including community contribution (embodying the goals of the IGDA), game design, innovation, audio, new studio, technology and writing.

Additional categories, such as the Maverick and First Penguin awards are issued for bravery and pioneering spirit, and using independent thought and a willingness to take chances no-one else has taken before to create new and original digital entertainment.

Nominees will be officially announced on February 28th, leaving just one week of voting for the final decision. Winners will be presented with their awards at the Choice Awards ceremony, to be held on 22nd March at the San Jose Civic Auditorium as part of the 2006 Game Developers Conference.
