Nintendo: Wii will not be distribution platform for DS games

Nintendo has rubbished reports that full DS games will soon be available to download via the Wii console.

Nintendo has rubbished reports that full DS games will soon be available to download via the Wii console.

Reports of a service that would allow users to download games via the home console and transfer them to the popular handheld surfaced last week, after an interview in the New York Times with Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime.

However, Nintendo has issued a response claiming that statements in the New York Times article are incorrect, with the publication since updating and correcting a number of errors in the report.

"An article about the Nintendo DS videogame system in the December 31 Business Day section of the New York Times incorrectly referred to future capabilities of the device," said Nintendo.

"The statement that complete Nintendo DS games will eventually be able to be downloaded into the device via a wireless connection with the company's Wii game console is incorrect."

The company has clarified that only demos of future DS games will be downloadable via the Wii, and any content saved to the DS would be erased as soon as the handheld is switched off.
