Nintendo unveils new range of colours for DS Lite

Nintendo has confirmed that Japanese consumers will be able to choose from three different colours when the Nintendo DS Lite launches in the territory on March 2nd.

Nintendo has confirmed that Japanese consumers will be able to choose from three different colours when the Nintendo DS Lite launches in the territory on March 2nd.

As detailed on the Nintendo website, the colours available at launch will be Crystal White, Ice Blue and Enamel Navy. A Nintendo of Europe spokesperson told GamesIndustry.biz that "These are the announced colours for Japan only - we have not announced our plans for DS Lite colours in the UK." However, a retail source said that PAL territories are likely to get the white and navy versions.

The Nintendo DS Lite is slimmer and lighter than the original DS and features a number of other design changes. The slot for storing the handheld's stylus is now found on the right hand edge of the unit rather than at the back, for example, and there is now a cover for the Game Boy Advance cartridge slot.

The power button has been relocated to the side of the unit, and is now a sliding switch. The DS Lite has a much smaller AC adapter port, and lets users choose from four different brightness settings via a new options menu on the touch screen.

A European release date for the Nintendo DS Lite has yet to be announced.
