Nintendo shoots down DS redesign rumours

Company won't comment on E3 plans, but dismisses chatter of new DS model

Nintendo has dismissed rumours that it plans to reveal a redesigned DS at this year's E3.

Speculation started when Enterbrain president Hirokazu Hamamura made comments suggesting that Nintendo would be ready to showcase a hardware revision of its portable device at the E3 Media and Business Summit.

"We cannot comment on the specifics of what will be announced at E3, but at the very least there won't be anything like what Mr. Hamamura suggested, so [we] would like to clearly deny this," said Nintendo Japan's head of PR, reports IGN

"We're having a hard time understanding what kind of evidence [Mr. Hamamura] had for saying this."

Nintendo has a history of redesigning its handheld devices, with the original Game Boy being redesigned into Pocket, Colour and Advance versions and the DS being streamlined into the DS Lite.
