Nintendo director apologises for "otaku and geeks" remark

Nintendo of Europe's managing director of marketing Laurent Fischer - who remarked at a WiiWare event that the console's flash memory limitation would only be an issue for "geeks and otaku" - has issued an apology of sorts.

"I have huge respect for those who, like me, share a common passion for Nintendo and I want to make it clear that I would never use and I didn't use this terminology in such a context or way to cause offense," he said in a statement to Videogaming247.

"I regret that this misunderstanding has created such offense and disappointment within the community."

Eat Sleep Play's David Jaffe accused Nintendo of snubbing its loyal fanbase.

Gamers who have responded to Fischer's remarks in various Internet forums seem less upset by the alleged insult and more upset that Nintendo doesn't yet seem to be taking their complaints about the Wii's limited memory seriously - even though Satoru Iwata himself said they were reviewing a solution to eliminate the inconvenience.
