BAFTA presents Game Developer Q&A: Darwinia+

-

195 Picadilly, London, UK, United Kingdom

Which is better, Xbox or PC? In 2006, independent London developers Introversion won glowing reviews for their haunting geometric wargame Darwinia, set in a living virtual universe inside your PC. They were as surprised as anyone when it took them 4 years to complete the apparently straightforward task of adapting it from PC to Xbox Live Arcade. Admittedly, they added a whole new multiplayer game and many other enhancements, but famously forthright Introversion directors Mark Morris and Chris Delay also reveal the real ups and downs of coding for consoles. And, when choosing a platform is one of the biggest development decisions you can make, could the PC's heyday of indie experimentation be drawing to an end? Chaired by Kieron Gillen, RockPaperShotgun.com; Tickets cost £5, or free for BAFTA members

The Games Brands Play

-

IAB, London, UK, United Kingdom

Brands playing games? Well, forget for once about pulling in as many eyeballs as possible, this is all about engagement. And it’s why McDonald's opened a farm and American Express is facilitating deals on FarmVille. It's why Discovery Channel rolled out a game for the Deadliest Catch TV show, and Barclays launched the 56 Sage Street online gaming experience. Not to mention all those brands developing apps to get consumers in the games zone. Gaming the brand isn't child's play, though, and marketers need to know the rules of engagement: • What does gaming do for the brand? • Is now the time for that games app? • What’s so special about social gaming? • How can brands be part of the gameplay? • Is gaming right for your brand? To address these issues – and more – we've recruited a gang of practitioners to come along to our event at the IAB in central London on 16th February 2011 to talk about The games brands play. Our speakers will make the case for brand-games collaborations, showcase their gaming successes, and pretty much deliver the rules of engagement for this kind of branded entertainment.

Game Monetisation Europe 2015

-

Park Plaza Victoria London, United Kingdom

The video games industry will reach a staggering $80 Billion in 2014, with 11% YOY growth to 2018. Mobile and touch screen technologies have brought our industry from a splinter culture to a central one. We’re in a new era for games, with a new generation of gamers and huge new possibilities for developers and publishers alike. But as an industry we’ve not been able to develop strategies to consistently monetize across all our titles. As development and game management costs continue to rise, pressure piles on to acquire, retain and monetize users at better rates than we currently are. In mobile only 3% of users who walk through our doors convert in to players, lots more never even begin to play and only 2% of mobile game companies are breaking even. While at the same time audiences for PC and Console are squeezed by new technologies, making it vital to create successful monetization strategies and new revenue streams to maintain margins. Game Monetisation Europe brings together the brightest minds in our industries from the biggest game developers and publishers so together we can tackle the most critical challenge in gaming: Monetisation. - Organise 1-1 meetings onsite to get the knowledge and develop the relationships you need to see the money flooding in from your games - Industry leading experts give their renowned insight to make your games make more money - 2 days of dedicated networking: The Game Monetisation Summit is the biggest meeting of Sr executives and industry leaders in the field of monetisation with an unrivalled wealth of knowledge to drive our industry forward - Round table discussions with your peers to get to the heart of your monetisation challenges

UK tech post-Brexit: investment, influence and policy priorities

-

London, United Kingdom

At a time of considerable uncertainty following the EU referendum, this seminar will be a timely opportunity to discuss the next steps for ensuring Britain’s technology sectors continue to flourish. Delegates will assess the key challenges facing the UK post-Brexit including a lack of confidence as negotiations continue, the application of EU regulation going forward for data, IoT and cyber security as well as examining the tax framework to ensure Britain continues to be competitive and attractive to global corporation and SMEs alike. Following the launch of the UK industrial strategy and a commitment to a ‘Global Britain’, delegates will discuss the key opportunities and priorities for the tech sector including attracting - both domestic and foreign - investment, ensuring access to workers with the necessary skills, increasing exports and the developing regulatory framework. Other areas for discussion will include the UK’s role and influence in the longer terms for areas such as standardisation and spectrum management; the balance between access to overseas labour and improving digital skills throughout education and whether UK infrastructure adequately supports the technology sector.
