NavPower

AI pathfinding system used by EA for the likes of SKATE 3.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – October 13, 2009 – NavPower developer BabelFlux LLC today announced that Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) has licensed its AI pathfinding package for the upcoming SKATE™ 3 title and other games in development at EA.

NavPower provides one of the leading NavMesh auto-generation libraries. It is designed to support open world games with a high-performance build process and streaming technology that stitches together hundreds of meshes at runtime. The NavPower solution will be utilized in latest iteration of EA’s critically-acclaimed SKATE franchise being developed by Black Box, an EA studio based in Burnaby, B.C.

"We chose NavPower because it provides the best support for our large, complex levels in terms of the rapid build process and the compact memory footprint," said Mike Rayner, Chief Technical Officer at Black Box. "The NavPower feature set allows us to develop complex AI behaviors that look great even as the world changes dynamically around the SKATE characters."

"From the NavPower perspective, it's great to see game teams leveraging the NavPower functionality in innovative ways, and the EA teams have definitely been doing that from day one," said David Miles, NavPower Chief Technology Officer. "We are pleased that EA selected NavPower for its AAA titles and we continue to work closely with the development teams to deliver the highest quality AI experience."
