Publisher Midway has announced a new deal with Cartoon Network which will see eight of the station's major properties being developed into new videogames, covering both the children's and young adult markets.

Five properties have been signed from the station's Adult Swim programming block, which is broadcast at night and aimed at young adults - with a "grown up sense of humour and adult sensibilities", according to today's announcement.

In addition, three major children's franchises are also covered by the deal - namely Dexter's Laboratory, Ed, Edd n Eddy, and The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy - which are among the most popular shows owned by Cartoon Network at present.

The Adult Swim properties covered by the deal are Aqua Teen Hunger Force, The Brak Show, Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law, Sealab 2021, and Space Ghost Coast to Coast.

Exact details of the deal were not disclosed, and Midway has not revealed its plans for the franchises as yet - saying only that it has the rights to publish titles based on them across console, PC and handheld platforms, and that the first Adult Swim games will appear in late 2006.

"Cartoon Network is known for creating programming that is cutting-edge in its presentation and content, and thus perfectly suited for video games," enthused Midway's president and CEO David Zucker. "The built-in fan base and popularity of Adult Swim affords us a critical stepping stone towards success."
