Midlands MCM Expo 2010

South Peak Games, Tecmo Koei, EA and Konami among publishers showing wares later this month at the Telford International Centre.

20 FEBRUARY – TELFORD INTERNATIONAL CENTRE – ST QUENTIN GATE

It’s game on at Midlands MCM Expo as four major videogames publishers announce their attendance at the show. With competitions and hands-on previews of hot upcoming titles the Expo, which takes place at Telford International Centre on 20 February, looks set to be a great day out for all. Oh, and did we mention that kids get in free!?*

South Peak Games will be giving UK gamers their first opportunity to play the recently-announced 3D Dot Game Heroes… as well as the chance to win a game and console. A retro take on iconic 8-bit adventure games seen through the gorgeous lens of modern graphics, 3D Dot Game Heroes is set in a classic RPG kingdom whose evil king has decreed that sprites are outdated and must make the switch to 3D.

Visitors to the Tecmo KOEI stand will be able to get hands-on with the upcoming Xbox 360 version of the hugely popular Dynasty Warriors: Strike Force, which allows up to four friends to go online to launch raids as a team or battle for glory amongst themselves. Tecmo KOEI will also have a new range of Samurai Warriors 3 figures exclusively available at Midlands MCM Expo.

EA Games will be showcasing the extraordinary sci-fi epic Mass Effect 2, which sees Commander Shepard reluctantly teaming up with the shady Cerberus organisation to stop the mysterious insect-like Collectors, as well as innovative shooter sequel Army of Two: The 40th Day, a high octane bullet-fest that expands on and refines the co-operative play featured in the original game.

Also attending the show will be videogame giant Konami. Fans young and old will want to check out their great Yu-Gi-Oh! activities, ranging from introductory sessions for newcomers to the collectable card game to the chance to challenge the champions. In addition, there’ll be a Deck Doctor on hand to offer expert advice, as well as Yu-Gi-Oh! cartoon screenings.

Meanwhile, special guests attending the Expo include Harry Potter stars Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom) and Warwick Davis (Filius Flitwick); Tommy Knight, from the BBC’s smash hit Doctor Who spin-off series, The Sarah Jane Adventures; and Justin Fletcher and Sarah-Jane Honeywell from popular CBeebies’ show Higgledy House.

The Midlands MCM Expo is set to be a great opening to a great 2010 for the MCM Group, with the Spring Memorabilia Show taking place at Birmingham’s NEC on 27-28 March and the London MCM Expo at London’s Excel Centre on 29-30 May.
